Teen Arrested in November Armed Robbery of Postal Carrier in Richmond County

An Augusta teen has become the second person arrested in the November armed robbery of a U.S. Postal mail carrier in the Apple Valley Subdivision.
Darrion Antwon Williams, 17, a resident of the subdivision, was located at Cedarwood Apartments at 527 Richmond Hill Rd. West and taken into custody. A juvenile offender had previously been arrested in connection with the incident. Williams was arrested on a grand jury arrest warrant for armed robbery and weapon possession.
In addition to Williams’ arrest, two other individuals were also arrested in relation to the investigation. Chavonne Thomas, 35, Williams’ mother, was charged with felony giving false statements and writings. Carl Gant, 32, Williams’ uncle, was charged with felony harboring or concealing a fugitive.
The robbery occurred on November 13, 2024, around 4:55 p.m. at 3461 Jonathan Circle when a 24-year-old postal carrier was stopped while passing out mail. According to authorities, two suspects approached the carrier—one wearing all black and a face mask, and another wearing a gray hoodie—who then pushed a pistol into his chest and stole two items from him before fleeing toward Marvin Griffin Road.
Sheriff Eugene Brantley emphasized the importance of community cooperation in addressing violent crime: “We must all work together to stop violent crime in our area… Parents, teachers, preachers, and family members often know when someone is heading down the wrong path, and we all need to step up to guide them toward better decisions.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue working with federal and local partners to hold offenders accountable.
