Fugitive Wanted on Rape and Sodomy Charges Captured in Richmond County After Vehicle Crash and Foot Chase

RICHMOND COUNTY, Georgia – A man wanted on multiple violent felony warrants was captured Friday after leading law enforcement on a brief pursuit and attempting to force his way into a Richmond County residence, authorities said.

At approximately 11 a.m. on June 5, 2026, members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and deputies with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office attempted to arrest 37-year-old Christopher Enoch Chance.

According to investigators, Chance was wanted on multiple violent felony warrants out of Burke County, including charges of Rape, Sodomy, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Crime.

Authorities said Chance had been actively evading law enforcement and was believed to have been moving between locations in Georgia and North Carolina in an effort to avoid capture.

When officers attempted to take him into custody, Chance fled in a vehicle from the area of Windsor Spring Road and Spirit Creek Road.

A short time later, the vehicle crashed, and Chance fled the scene on foot.

Investigators said Chance then ran into a nearby neighborhood and attempted to forcibly enter a residence on Ashton Drive while trying to evade arrest.

Task force members and deputies quickly caught up with him and took him into custody without further incident.

No injuries were reported during the pursuit or arrest.

Richmond County Sheriff Eugene Brantley praised the efforts of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force and Richmond County deputies involved in the operation.

Authorities said Chance is being held pending proceedings related to the Burke County warrants.

The investigation remains ongoing.
