Bibb County Investigation Leads to Arrest in Copper Wire Theft Case
MACON, Ga. — A Bibb County Sheriff’s Office investigator helped recover a large amount of suspected stolen copper wire and assisted in the arrest of a suspect facing charges in multiple counties, authorities said.
According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Property Unit Investigator Adam Grant was contacted by a neighboring law enforcement agency after a significant quantity of copper wire believed to have been stolen from locations in Bibb County was discovered at a residence.
Investigators determined the wire had allegedly been cut from utility poles and other locations throughout the city.
Authorities said the suspect reportedly stole and processed the copper in an effort to obtain money to pay attorney fees associated with previous theft charges.
During the investigation, deputies recovered numerous pieces of evidence, including copper wire, burned casing material, spray paint allegedly used to make the wire appear copper-colored, and a Milwaukee cutting tool believed to have been used during the thefts.
The suspect was arrested and is expected to face additional charges in two counties.
The investigation remains ongoing.
