3-Month-Old Infant Found Dead in Augusta Home; Dog Attack Suspected
AUGUSTA, Georgia – Authorities in Richmond County are investigating the death of a 3-month-old infant after reports that the child may have been attacked by a dog inside a residence Saturday morning.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 9:21 a.m. on June 6, 2026, to a home in the 500 block of Hillwood Circle following a report of a deceased infant.
When deputies arrived, they located the 3-month-old child deceased inside the residence.
Investigators said initial information indicated the infant may have been attacked by a dog inside the home.
The scene was secured, and all occupants were safely removed from the residence while authorities began their investigation.
Members of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Animal Services, and the Richmond County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene.
As part of the investigation, Animal Services removed a Cane Corso from the home.
Authorities have not released the identity of the infant, and no additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death have been made public.
Investigators are continuing to conduct interviews and gather evidence to determine exactly what occurred.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
