Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Employee Fired, Charged with Child Sex Crimes
Ivan Munoz

A civilian employee of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office has been terminated and arrested on charges of child sex crimes. Ivan Munoz, 45, was taken into custody early Wednesday morning and charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation following an investigation by Marietta police.

Marietta police reported that the allegations surfaced after the courageous young victim disclosed the incidents to someone at their church on Sunday. Public Information Officer Chuck McPhilamy stated that authorities were notified on Monday, and Munoz was in custody by Tuesday night, describing the situation as “tragic.”

Munoz had been employed by the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office since 2000, working as a criminal justice specialist. Cobb County Sheriff Craig Owens issued a strong statement following the arrest. “After being briefed on the investigation and pending charges, I immediately terminated this individual’s employment,” Sheriff Owens said. “These are particularly egregious charges, and his behavior goes against everything we stand for in law enforcement. We must do everything we can to stop the victimization of innocent children.”

Marietta police are continuing their investigation into this case.
