Smyrna Police Search for Gun-Wielding Road Rage Suspect After Driver Pistol-Whipped During Violent Confrontation

SMYRNA, Ga. – Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man accused of pistol-whipping a driver during a violent road rage incident that began as a traffic dispute in Smyrna.

The incident occurred on June 27, 2026, as the occupants of two vehicles became involved in a confrontation while traveling through the city.

According to the Smyrna Police Department, a driver in his 50s noticed the other vehicle following him after he turned off the main roadway. He stopped his vehicle and got out to speak with the occupants.

Police said the encounter quickly escalated into a physical altercation. During the fight, the victim was struck multiple times in the head with a handgun.

Investigators have identified the driver of the suspect vehicle as 18-year-old Hayle Kirkpatrick, who has been charged with Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers in connection with the investigation.

Detectives are now working to identify the male passenger who allegedly assaulted the victim with the firearm.
