Former Coweta County School Resource Officer Indicted on Child Molestation Charges
NEWNAN, Ga. — A former school resource officer and Coweta County deputy turned himself in to law enforcement Friday after being indicted on multiple felony charges of child molestation involving a middle school student, state law enforcement officials announced.
59-year-old Mike McGuffey, of Newnan, turned himself in to the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, August 14, 2026. He was booked into the Heard County Jail in Franklin, GA, following an indictment handed down on Thursday, August 13. McGuffey faces three counts of Child Molestation and two counts of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes.
Middle School Investigation
The investigation was initiated on April 21, 2025, when the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office formally requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to conduct an independent probe into allegations surrounding McGuffey.
The allegations indicated that McGuffey engaged in inappropriate contact with a student while serving as the school resource officer at a Coweta County middle school. Officials confirmed that McGuffey is no longer employed with the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
