Chick-fil-A Employee in Stone Mountain Fights Armed Robber
The Gwinnett County Police Department has arrested an armed robbery suspect who fought with a Chick-fil-A employee for several minutes during the early morning hours of July 1.
Officers initially responded to the store located at 5075 Stone Mountain Highway in Stone Mountain, Georgia, around 4:30 a.m. after the victim called 911 to report the robbery attempt. Upon arrival, the victim, a delivery driver for the business, informed the officers that while he was working inside, the suspect smashed through a drive-thru window with a rock and entered the kitchen area. The suspect then pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded he open the safe, threatening to kill him if he didn’t comply. The victim, not knowing the combination to the safe, decided to fight off the armed robber. Surveillance video captured the two men fighting over the gun for several minutes.
During the altercation, the victim managed to pull the suspect’s mask off. After several minutes of fighting, the suspect fled through a rear exit door and was gone by the time police arrived. Investigators were assigned the case and began canvassing the area for evidence related to the suspect’s identity. They eventually identified a vehicle they believed the suspect used to get to the location, leading to the identification of Tommie Lee Williams, 51.
Warrants were obtained for Williams for armed robbery, aggravated assault, second-degree burglary, kidnapping, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and second-degree criminal damage to property. Williams was arrested on July 31 with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals and the Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Department.
