Atlanta Firefighters Rescue Residents, Pets From Second-Alarm Apartment Fire

ATLANTA, Ga. – Atlanta firefighters rescued three residents and multiple pets after a fast-moving apartment fire spread into the attic of a multi-family building Saturday, prompting a second-alarm response.

According to Atlanta Fire Rescue, crews arrived to find heavy smoke and fire extending into the attic of the apartment building.

Firefighters immediately began rescue operations using ground ladders while deploying hand lines to attack the fire with water supplied from the responding apparatus. Crews simultaneously established a sustained water supply to support the growing firefighting effort.

As flames spread through the structure, firefighters rescued three residents, including occupants who were trapped on upper-floor balconies.

Crews also rescued multiple pets while conducting searches of the building, evacuating residents and working to keep the fire from spreading to neighboring apartment buildings.

The incident was upgraded to a second alarm as firefighters battled rapidly advancing fire conditions and focused on protecting nearby residential buildings.

Atlanta Fire Rescue said firefighters successfully contained the blaze before it spread beyond the original building. All primary searches were completed, and officials reported no fire extension to adjacent apartment buildings.

The department said the response required firefighters to perform multiple operations simultaneously, including rescues, fire suppression, evacuations, exposure protection and water supply management while adapting to rapidly changing fire conditions.

No information on injuries or the cause of the fire was immediately released. The incident remains under investigation.
