Human Remains Found Inside Abandoned Home in Macon, Investigation Underway

MACON, Ga. – The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after human remains were discovered inside an abandoned residence Sunday evening in the Unionville area of Macon.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies were dispatched shortly before 8 p.m. on July 19 to the 3000 block of Marse Allen Road after receiving a report of a deceased person inside an abandoned home.

When patrol deputies arrived, they located human remains inside the residence.

Investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and Crime Scene Unit responded to process the scene and begin an investigation.

Authorities said the identity of the deceased has not been determined, and investigators do not yet know how long the remains had been inside the residence.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said the remains will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab, where an examination will be conducted to determine the person’s identity and assist investigators.

The circumstances surrounding the death have not been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.
