Armed Robbery Reported at South Atlanta Food Mart

On Wednesday, April 17th, at approximately 1:39 am, Atlanta Police Officers were dispatched in response to a burglary at the Food Mart located at 1634 Lakewood Ave SE. An employee reported that the store had been robbed by an armed male suspect. No injuries were reported.

According to initial investigations, a male suspect entered the premises and began tampering with gaming machines, trying to pry them open with a tire iron. Upon hearing the commotion, an employee intervened. However, the suspect took out a firearm and demanded access to the gaming machines. When the employee expressed inability to comply, the suspect then demanded cash from the registers. In total, the perpetrator made off with approximately $3000 in cash and the employee’s handgun.

The suspect fled the scene driving what appeared to be a blue early 2000s GMC Yukon or Chevrolet Suburban, heading north on Lakewood Ave.

The investigation remains active.
