Woman Killed After Pickup Crashes Into Tractor-Trailer on I-75 South in Bibb County

MACON, Ga. – A 50-year-old woman died Thursday afternoon after her pickup truck crashed into the back of a tractor-trailer on Interstate 75 in Bibb County.
The crash happened on I-75 South just before the Hartley Bridge Road exit and was reported to the Macon-Bibb E-911 Center at 1:06 p.m., according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies arrived to find a 2019 Ford F-150 and a 2023 Freightliner Cascadia involved in the collision.
Investigators said the woman was driving the F-150 south when traffic ahead began to stop. She applied her brakes but was unable to stop before the pickup struck the rear of the Freightliner’s trailer.
The impact left the woman trapped inside the truck.
Macon-Bibb County firefighters worked to free her from the wreckage, and paramedics transported her to a local medical facility. She later died from her injuries, according to medical staff.
Authorities have not released her name pending notification of her family.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash forced authorities to shut down all southbound lanes of I-75 while emergency crews worked at the scene. The lanes have since reopened.
The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate what led to the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call 478-751-7500 and request a fatality investigator.
