37-Year-Old Inmate Found Dead Inside Bibb County Law Enforcement Center

MACON, Ga. – A 37-year-old inmate was found unresponsive inside his cell at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center early Friday morning and was later pronounced dead, prompting an internal investigation and an autopsy.
Bibb County sheriff’s deputies discovered Brandon Joe McCoy unresponsive in his cell at about 12:28 a.m. Oct. 2, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Bibb County Coroner Lonnie Miley pronounced McCoy dead at the jail.
The Sheriff’s Office did not release information about the circumstances surrounding McCoy’s death or say whether jail staff had observed any medical or behavioral issues before he was found unresponsive.
McCoy was being held at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center on charges of Theft by Receiving Stolen Property – Felony, Fleeing and Eluding a Police Officer, and Willful Obstruction of Law Enforcement Officers by Use of Threats or Violence. He had been in-custody since his arrest on April 9, 2025.
