17-Year-Old Charged With Murder After Man Found Shot in Head at Sandy Springs Apartment

SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. – A 17-year-old has been charged with murder after a man was found shot to death inside a Sandy Springs apartment during a welfare check, police said.
Christopher Castillo was taken into custody Aug. 29, one day after officers found 25-year-old Williams Lopez Rodriguez dead at The Celebration at Sandy Springs Apartments, located at 7000 Roswell Road.
Sandy Springs police were called to the apartment complex around 6:29 p.m. Aug. 28 after Rodriguez’s family members requested a welfare check.
Officers entered the residence and found Rodriguez dead from an apparent gunshot wound to the head, according to police.
Detectives investigating the killing identified Castillo as the suspect and determined that he had left the scene before officers arrived.
Police did not disclose what led investigators to Castillo or provide information about a possible motive or relationship between Castillo and Rodriguez.
The following day, Cobb County police officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Barrett Parkway and Mall Boulevard. Castillo was taken into custody during the stop.
Castillo has been charged with murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Sandy Springs police credited the Cobb County Police Department with assisting investigators in locating and apprehending Castillo.
The homicide remains under investigation.
