Officers responded at approximately 5:52 a.m. to the 2000 block of West Oglethorpe Avenue in the West Highland neighborhood after receiving a report of a vehicle crash.

When officers arrived, they found 17-year-old Neontae Jaquavian Clark, known as “Tae,” dead in the driver’s seat of a Nissan Sentra. Investigators said Clark had suffered a gunshot wound to the right side of his neck.

A handgun was recovered from the driver’s side floorboard of the vehicle.

Police determined Clark’s death was the result of a homicide. Investigators said the vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. Family members have told investigators they believe the shooting occurred farther up the hill near the Westwood Apartments before the vehicle traveled to the crash site.

As the investigation progressed, detectives identified two suspects.

Police arrested 17-year-old Turenceau McRoy and 14-year-old Kymani St. Clair. Both have been charged with murder and aggravated assault.
