Woman Dies After Fiery Head-On Collision in Macon

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal head-on crash that occurred early Saturday morning, July 19, on Log Cabin Drive, just north of Meadowbrook Drive.

At 4:07 a.m., Macon-Bibb Emergency 911 received a report of a two-vehicle collision. Deputies arrived to find a Toyota Corolla engulfed in flames with the driver inside. A deputy was able to pull the unresponsive female motorist from the burning vehicle. Macon-Bibb Fire Department personnel also rescued a second female driver from a Buick Enclave involved in the crash.

Preliminary findings indicate that the Corolla was traveling northbound when it crossed into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Enclave.

Both drivers were transported by paramedics to a nearby medical facility. Twenty-eight-year-old JaNiecea Iman Smith, the driver of the Corolla, later died from her injuries. The other driver is reported to be in stable condition.

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley confirmed that Smith’s next of kin has been notified.

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 478-751-7500 and request to speak with a Fatality Investigator.
