Vehicle Strikes and Kills Elderly Pedestrian in Macon Traffic Incident

MACON, Ga. — Traffic investigators with the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office are investigating a Thursday night collision that left a 77-year-old pedestrian dead near a busy intersection, authorities announced.
The fatal crash occurred at approximately 7:36 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026, on Lilly Avenue, near its intersection with Mercer University Drive.

According to initial crash reports, a 55-year-old male driver operating a white Chevrolet Tahoe struck the 77-year-old male pedestrian as he was attempting to cross the roadway. Investigators noted the pedestrian was wearing dark clothing at the time of the impact.
First responders arriving at the scene discovered the pedestrian lying in the roadway unresponsive. Emergency medical services personnel treated the victim at the scene before transporting him by ambulance to a local hospital, where medical staff pronounced him deceased shortly after arrival.
Ongoing Investigation and Public Appeal
Deputies made contact with the 55-year-old driver of the Tahoe on scene. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased pedestrian pending formal notification of next of kin.
