Inmate Death Under Investigation at Bibb County Law Enforcement Center

The Bibb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 62-year-old inmate, George Oliver Crafter, who was found unresponsive in his cell just before 6:00 a.m. this morning.

Emergency Medical Services arrived at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center but were unable to revive Crafter, who was pronounced deceased. Medical staff indicated that the inmate had an extensive medical history.

Crafter was being held in the Bibb County Jail for the Upson County Sheriff’s Office. The Upson County Sheriff’s Office has notified his next of kin.

Standard protocol for in-custody deaths requires an autopsy to be performed. The Bibb Sheriff’s Office of Professional Standards Internal Affairs Investigators are conducting the investigation into the incident.
