Carrollton Man Arrested After Copper Wiring Stolen From Home Under Construction

CARROLLTON, Ga. – A Carrollton man has been arrested after investigators used surveillance footage and license plate reader technology to identify a suspect in the theft of electrical wiring from a home under construction, according to the Carrollton Police Department.

The investigation began on July 21 after officers responded to the 100 block of Martin Cemetery Road for a report that electrical wiring had been cut and stolen from a residence under construction.

Police said the damage to the home and the value of the stolen materials are estimated between $2,500 and $3,000.

During the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance images provided by the property owner that showed a suspicious vehicle visiting the construction site on multiple occasions.

Investigators then used the department’s Flock Safety License Plate Reader camera system to identify a vehicle matching the unique characteristics seen in the surveillance footage.

Police said information obtained through the Flock system, combined with additional investigative work, led detectives to identify 40-year-old Ronald “Skip” Martin Jr. of Carrollton as the suspect.

Martin was arrested and charged with Burglary.

The Carrollton Police Department said the investigation highlights how technology, when combined with traditional police work, can help solve crimes more quickly. Investigators said the Flock camera system provided valuable leads that helped identify the suspect vehicle and advance the case, while emphasizing that the technology is only one part of the investigative process.

The investigation remains ongoing.
