Lyons Police Officer Arrested for Theft and Oath Violation

Dustin Matejcik, a 30-year-old Lyons Police Officer from Glennville, Georgia, was arrested and charged by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, with felony counts of Violation of Oath of Office and Theft by Taking.
The arrest follows an investigation initiated on March 26, 2025, at the request of Lyons Police Department Chief Wesley Walker. The investigation centered on an incident that occurred on March 22, 2025. Matejcik assisted another Lyons Police Officer with a traffic stop that resulted in an arrest.
During the stop, the arrested individual requested that their personal belongings be given to their employer, who was expected to arrive at the scene. While the other officer transported the arrested individual to jail, Matejcik remained at the scene.
On March 25, 2025, the Lyons Police Department was contacted regarding the retrieval of the arrested individual’s belongings. However, the items could not be located.
The GBI investigation revealed that no employer arrived at the scene to collect the items. Furthermore, Matejcik failed to turn over the arrested individual’s money, passport, and keys to evidence.
Matejcik was booked into the Toombs County Detention Center.
The GBI will complete its investigation, and the case file will be forwarded to the Middle Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
