Nine-Month Mail Theft Probe Uncovers Check Fraud Ring in Perry; Four Arrested, Five Wanted

PERRY, GA — The Perry Police Department has uncovered a multi-jurisdictional mail theft and check fraud ring following a nine-month investigation into stolen mail routed through the local United States Postal Service (USPS) system. Four suspects have been arrested, and five others remain outstanding with active felony warrants.

The investigation began in early September 2025 after residents in Perry and Houston County reported that checks mailed through the Perry Post Office had been intercepted, stolen, and fraudulently altered.

Multi-Agency Investigation Identifies 15 to 20 Victims

Detectives identified a consistent pattern among the thefts and launched an investigation utilizing local, state, and federal resources. To date, investigators have identified approximately 15 to 20 victims who were financially impacted by the scheme.

The Perry Police Department coordinated its efforts with the Leesburg Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and the United States Postal Service to identify the suspects and execute the warrants.

Suspects Apprehended

The following individuals have been taken into custody:

  • Exivaes Doral Robinson, 31, of Leesburg, GA – Charged with Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Deception.
  • Kevon Lemond Holmes, 30, of Leesburg, GA – Charged with Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Deception.
  • Kevontae Demtrius Downs, 25, of Sylvester, GA – Charged with Financial Identity Fraud.
  • Diamond Sandrell Byrd, 32, of Albany, GA – Charged with Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Deception.

Outstanding Suspects Wanted by Law Enforcement

Police are actively seeking five additional suspects who face active warrants in connection with the fraud ring:

  • Cory Antonio Thomas, 34, of Albany, GA – Wanted for Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Taking.
  • Reshonda Renee Taylor, 30, of Albany, GA – Wanted by the Perry Police Department and the Houston County Sheriff’s Department for Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Taking.
  • Lorenzo Oliver James, 27, of Albany, GA – Wanted for Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Deception.
  • Gregory D. Jackson, 34, of Albany, GA – Wanted for Financial Identity Fraud and Theft by Deception.
  • Na’quavus Shannoris Taylor, 26, of Leesburg, GA – Wanted for Financial Identity Fraud.

The Perry Police Department continues to review evidence and pursue additional leads, noting that further charges or arrests may occur.

Due to the ongoing risk of mail-related financial crimes, authorities advise residents to exercise caution when sending checks or sensitive financial documents through the mail system, suggesting alternative payment methods when available.
