COLUMBUS, GA — The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office Collaborative Intelligence Group (CIG) has arrested two wanted fugitives in separate operations targeting the sexual abuse and exploitation of children across state lines.

Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman announced the arrests, which involved coordinated efforts with federal and local law enforcement partners in Georgia and Alabama.

In the first operation, Muscogee County CIG investigators tracked a wanted fugitive into Alabama. Working alongside the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, investigators executed a search warrant at a property in Macon County, Alabama.

John Hunter Blanton was arrested on multiple outstanding Muscogee County bench warrants. He faces the following charges:

  • Two counts of Aggravated Child Molestation
  • One count of Child Molestation
  • One count of Statutory Rape
  • One count of Enticing a Child for Indecent Purposes

Blanton was taken into custody without incident. He remains held in Alabama pending formal extradition proceedings back to Muscogee County, Georgia.

In a separate deployment, Muscogee County CIG units located and arrested Brian Spargo within Muscogee County. Spargo was wanted on an active felony warrant issued by the Phenix City Police Department in Alabama.

The Alabama warrant charges Spargo with First-Degree Sodomy, stemming from an active, ongoing criminal investigation into the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

Following his arrest, Spargo was transported and booked into the Muscogee County Jail. He is currently being held while awaiting extradition to Russell County, Alabama, to face the charges.

Sheriff Countryman emphasized that the regional operations remain fluid and active, stating that additional charges may be pending as investigators continue to process evidence.

“The Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office will not tolerate crimes of this nature against our children,” Sheriff Countryman said. “We remain committed to locating and arresting wanted offenders to ensure the safety of those in our community.”
