Macon Man Arrested After Foot Chase, Deputies Recover Drugs and Loaded Handgun

MACON, Ga. — A traffic stop in Macon led to a foot pursuit and the recovery of suspected narcotics, drug distribution materials, and a loaded handgun, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident began when Bibb County Sheriff’s Office H.E.A.T. Unit Sgt. Reginald Tillman observed a vehicle commit multiple lane violations near Log Cabin Drive and Eisenhower Parkway and initiated a traffic stop.

According to a report, Sgt. Tillman also detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle during the encounter.

Rather than immediately stopping, the driver continued driving before eventually pulling into a business parking lot. The suspect then exited the vehicle carrying a backpack and fled on foot.

Sgt. Tillman pursued the suspect through several parking lots, across Presidential Parkway, and into a wooded area. Authorities said the suspect attempted multiple times to evade capture by hiding in the woods, but Sgt. Tillman ultimately located and apprehended him without injury.

During a search of the area along the suspect’s path of flight, Sgt. Tillman recovered a backpack matching the one the suspect had been carrying during the chase.

Inside the backpack, deputies found multiple individually packaged bags of suspected marijuana, suspected marijuana concentrate commonly referred to as wax or hash, drug packaging materials, drug paraphernalia, and a loaded Glock 43X 9mm handgun.

Investigators also located additional evidence inside the suspect’s vehicle that was consistent with narcotics distribution.

Due to the quantity of suspected narcotics recovered, a narcotics investigator responded to assist with the investigation.

The suspect was transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center and charged in connection with the incident. Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or a complete list of charges.

The investigation remains ongoing.
