Suspect Arrested in North Carolina for 2023 Shooting Death of Teen in Columbus
On March 14, 2025, Aquiles Saunders was arrested in North Carolina by the U.S. Marshals in connection with the July 2023 shooting death of 17-year-old Bobby Lyons. The incident occurred at the Arbor Pointe Apartments on Gazebo Way in South Columbus.
Saunders was extradited to Columbus, Georgia, and charged with murder in the death of Lyons, who was shot on the night of July 7, 2023. Lyons was transported to Piedmont Hospital, where he underwent surgery but succumbed to his injuries the following Saturday morning.
