False Alarm at Cumberland Mall: Fistfight Sparks Panic, No Active Shooter or Stabbing Found
On the evening of December 22, 2024, Cobb County Police responded to multiple 911 reports of an active shooter at Cumberland Mall. Several callers described masked males running through the mall, allegedly firing shots.
An officer already present at the mall for part-time security duties immediately went to the food court, where the incident was first reported. Upon arrival, the officer found no victims or armed individuals, but panic had already spread among mall patrons. As a result, officers from multiple agencies arrived to secure the scene and manage the confusion.
As officers began dispersing the crowd, they detained two juveniles and one adult for further questioning. A blood trail was discovered in front of several stores, raising concerns that a stabbing had occurred.
After reviewing surveillance footage, it was determined that the disturbance was caused by a fistfight, not an active shooter or stabbing incident. The video revealed that one individual involved in the altercation had begun bleeding, exited the mall, and left the blood trail behind. No firearms or knives were found at the scene, and no injuries were reported to local hospitals.
The Cobb County Police Department has assured the public that there is no ongoing threat to safety at Cumberland Mall and commended the swift response of all officers involved in ensuring the safety of the community.
