Covington Man Charged After Gun Discharges During Gas Station Dispute

On Wednesday, November 27, at approximately 5 p.m., Newton County deputies responded to an aggravated assault at the Marathon gas station on Highway 36.

According to the preliminary investigation, Joshua Williams, 22, of Covington, was involved in a dispute with a 25-year-old man. During the altercation, Williams retrieved a firearm, prompting a struggle between him and the victim. The firearm discharged during the struggle, but no injuries were reported.

Williams fled the scene but was later apprehended by law enforcement. He has been charged with aggravated assault, battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He is currently being held at the Newton County Detention Center.
