Nine Arrested in Newton County Vehicle Theft and Auto Burglary Investigation

NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. – Nine suspects have been arrested in connection with a series of vehicle break-ins and vehicle thefts that occurred at the Arbor Lake Apartments and surrounding areas during July, according to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.

The investigation began after deputies received multiple reports of vehicle-related crimes between July 8 and July 21. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division launched a comprehensive investigation that linked the incidents together.

Investigators determined the crime spree resulted in damage to at least 10 vehicles, the theft of five vehicles and one theft from a vehicle.

Through the investigation, authorities identified and arrested six suspects: 17-year-old Jimmy Upton, 19-year-old Jamarvis Upton, 17-year-old Duntarious Smith, 19-year-old Ryan Roseberry, 18-year-old Skyler Morris-Love and 17-year-old Jayden Morris-Love.

In addition, three juveniles were taken into custody in connection with the investigation. Authorities said all nine suspects remain in custody pending further judicial proceedings.

Sheriff Ezell Brown praised the coordinated efforts of investigators and patrol personnel involved in the case.

“I commend the men and women of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and teamwork throughout this investigation,” Brown said. “Their efforts demonstrate our continued commitment to protecting our neighborhoods and ensuring those responsible for criminal activity are held accountable.”

The investigation involved members of the Newton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, Special Investigations Division, Uniform Patrol Division and School Resource Officers.

The investigation remains ongoing.
