Cobb Veterans Court Celebrates 10 Years of Transforming Lives
The Cobb Veterans Accountability and Treatment Court Program (VATC) marked a decade of profound impact on local veterans’ lives at a special event held at the Marietta Conference Center. Led by Superior Court Judge Robert Leonard, who presides over the VATC, the celebration drew over one hundred guests to honor the program’s achievements and supporters.
The event, sponsored by the Bravo Victor Fund, a non-profit dedicated to supporting the VATC and its participants, recognized key figures instrumental in its success. Former presiding judge Reuben Green, who introduced the Veterans Court in 2014, received an award for his visionary leadership. Senior Judge Green recounted the program’s inception, highlighting its role in aiding veterans with PTSD, substance abuse, and other challenges through counseling and job training.
Sergeant Major Ernie Hines, Veteran Mentor Coordinator, was honored for his pivotal role in guiding participants through the program. He emphasized the vital contribution of veteran mentors in fostering success among program participants.
Highlighting the evening were heartfelt testimonials from program graduates and current participants, who shared personal stories of transformation and gratitude for the program’s support.
Since its launch on June 13, 2014, the Cobb VATC has been a pioneering force in Georgia’s accountability courts for veterans. The 18- to 24-month program combines structured support with intensive case management, designed to enhance public safety by reducing recidivism and helping veterans reintegrate as productive members of society.
Due to its exemplary model and positive outcomes, the Cobb VATC has been recognized as a Model Court in Georgia, serving as a mentor for similar courts statewide.
The event underscored the profound impact of the Cobb VATC in supporting veterans and their families, celebrating a decade of service and commitment to those who have served their country.
