Man Arrested After Mother and Her Boyfriend Found Dead in West End Home

Atlanta police have arrested 44-year-old Neil Russell in connection with an aggravated assault that occurred at 835 Oglethorpe Avenue SW in the West End neighborhood on March 7, 2025. Russell has been charged with Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment, and Possession of a Knife During the Commission of a Felony. He was taken into custody on March 8 and transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.

The incident began on March 7 at approximately 2:51 p.m. when officers responded to the residence for a welfare check. Upon arrival, they encountered Russell, who refused to cooperate and threatened to harm himself and others before barricading himself inside. Hostage Negotiators were called to assist.

After negotiations, Russell complied with officers’ commands and was detained. During a protective sweep of the property, officers discovered the bodies of his mother and her boyfriend. Both were unresponsive and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation remains ongoing, with both the Aggravated Assault and Homicide Units working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
