Macon-Bibb County Celebrates Unveiling of Dedicated Plaque at Atrium Health Amphitheater

In a special ceremony held on Friday, May 31, Macon-Bibb County commemorated a significant milestone with the unveiling of a dedicated plaque at the Atrium Health Amphitheater. The event, attended by Commissioners, Urban Development Authority (UDA) board members, Bicentennial Committee members, and various community stakeholders, marked a momentous occasion for the community.

Mayor Lester Miller expressed the significance of the moment, stating, “This is and will be something we will look back many years from now and smile at what we have…and today, we will unveil something that will help us remember this moment in time.”

The plaque, located near the West Gate entrance, was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Bicentennial Committee and Piedmont Construction. It prominently features the names of each Commissioner, UDA board member, and Executive Director Alex Morrison, recognizing their pivotal roles in the construction of the Amphitheater. Additionally, it acknowledges the contributions of the various companies and organizations involved in the project.

Alex Morrison highlighted the transformative impact of projects like the Amphitheater on the community, emphasizing the restoration of equity and hope for neighborhoods such as Unionville, Bloomfield, West Macon, Cherokee Heights, and others.

Following the unveiling, guests were invited to participate in a group photo on the stage and explore behind-the-scenes areas of the amphitheater. Mayor Miller expressed gratitude to the attendees, both present and those watching via livestream, acknowledging their role in driving economic growth and revitalization in the area.

The Atrium Health Amphitheater, which opened earlier this year, has already hosted notable performances, including Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Top, Riley Green, Turnpike Troubadours, Anthony Hamilton, and more. With a capacity of 12,000, the venue continues to be a hub for entertainment and community engagement in Macon-Bibb County.
