Woman Arrested After Driving Away From Traffic Stop in Gwinnett County, Cries Foul During Arrest

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — A woman was arrested after allegedly refusing to comply with a traffic stop and driving away from an officer in Gwinnett County, according to police.

The incident occurred on May 28, 2026, when Officer N. Laniyonu conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple traffic violations.

According to police, after the officer activated his emergency lights, the driver, later identified as Judy Joseph, turned on her hazard lights. Officer Laniyonu instructed Joseph over his vehicle’s intercom to pull into a nearby parking lot, but she continued driving past several parking lots before eventually stopping.

When the vehicle came to a stop, police said Joseph refused to roll down her window, identify herself, or provide a driver’s license. Instead, she allegedly began yelling at the officer and told him to leave her alone.

Despite efforts by the officer to calm the situation, Joseph continued refusing to cooperate and eventually drove away from the traffic stop, according to the report.

Officer Laniyonu did not pursue the vehicle but was able to identify Joseph and later obtained multiple arrest warrants related to the incident.

Later that same day, Officer D. Richard located Joseph and took her into custody.

Police said Joseph admitted she left the traffic stop because she believed Officer Laniyonu was profiling her by following her. She also reportedly stated that she did not think she had done anything wrong by leaving the stop.

Authorities emphasized that motorists are required to identify themselves and comply with lawful instructions during traffic stops. Police noted that complaints about a traffic stop can be addressed through the appropriate channels after the encounter has concluded.

The specific charges filed against Joseph were not immediately released by authorities.
