Cordele Man Arrested After Fleeing Police, Found With Suspected Drugs, Gun, and Cash
CORDELE, Georgia – A 36-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after fleeing from officers and allegedly discarding drugs while attempting to evade capture in Cordele.
According to the Cordele Police Department, officers were dispatched around 8:30 a.m. on June 1 to a residence on Stewart Avenue regarding a trespassing complaint. Before officers arrived, the suspect had already left the area.
Shortly after the initial call, the same individual contacted 911 and reported that the resident who had reported him for trespassing was allegedly selling illegal narcotics from the residence.
While investigating both incidents, officers located the suspect behind the former Pizza Hut building. When officers attempted to speak with him regarding the trespassing complaint and the information he provided to dispatchers, he immediately fled on foot.
Officers coordinated a search of the area and ultimately located and apprehended the suspect behind the Circle K on East 16th Avenue.
Following his arrest, officers searched the suspect and the path he traveled while fleeing. During the investigation, officers recovered a large quantity of suspected marijuana, digital scales, a loaded 9mm handgun, jewelry, and a substantial amount of U.S. currency.
The suspect was charged with:
- Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of Certain Crimes
- Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer
- Abandonment of a Controlled Substance
- Loitering or Prowling
Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional charges may be filed as investigators continue reviewing the evidence recovered during the incident.
