Armed Suspect in Custody After Firing Toward Homes in Newton County
NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A man is in custody after deputies say he fired a handgun toward homes and individuals in a Newton County neighborhood Monday afternoon.
Deputies responded around 12:30 p.m. on March 30, 2026, to the area of Spring Hill Road and Spring Valley Crossing following reports of an armed individual.
According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect allegedly discharged a firearm toward multiple residences and in the direction of several people. Authorities also said the suspect entered at least one residence during the incident.
No injuries were reported, including to the suspect, though property damage has been documented.
The suspect was identified as 41-year-old Lavarous Cosby of Covington. He has been taken into custody, and charges are pending.
The investigation remains ongoing.
