Suspect Arrested After Deputies Catch Burglary In Progress At Jones County Business

MACON, Georgia – A burglary in progress early Sunday morning ended with a suspect in custody after Jones County deputies located him inside a local business.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, January 18, Deputy Thomas Morgan and Deputy David Brown responded to Southeast Outdoor Solutions following a report of a burglary with the suspect still inside the building. When deputies arrived, they discovered the front door had been shattered with a brick.

Deputy Brown secured the front entrance while deputies entered the business and began clearing the building room by room. During the search, deputies heard movement near a rear corridor and encountered a white male matching the suspect seen on the business’s security footage. The man was wearing a company jacket that had been taken from inside the building.

The suspect was ordered to the ground and taken into custody without incident. He was identified as 37-year-old Marty Morgan and transported to the Jones County Jail, where he was turned over to jail staff.

Warrants were obtained for Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree and misdemeanor Theft by Taking. The investigation remains ongoing.
