Camden County Honors Late 911 Dispatcher with Memorial Intersection Sign

WOODBINE, GA – On December 9, 2025, the Camden County Sheriff’s Office hosted a ceremony at the Historic Courthouse in Woodbine to dedicate the Rachel Hodge Memorial Intersection, located at the intersection of State Route 25 Spur/Satilla Bluff Road and Pine Forest Drive. The permanent sign honors the life and service of former Communications Officer Rachel J. Hodge, who tragically died on April 18, 2020, following a car accident on I-95 after completing a 12-hour shift at the 911 Center.

Hodge served the Camden County Sheriff’s Office as a 911 dispatcher, a role she was deeply passionate about. She was known for her professionalism, compassion, and steady presence under pressure, providing calm and guidance during emergency situations. Coworkers recall her as understanding, supportive, and genuinely funny, someone who brought reassurance and reliability to both the public and her team during critical moments.

The dedication ceremony included members of the Hodge family, Sheriff Kevin Chaney, State Representative Steven Sainz, county officials, CCSO personnel, and community members. Attendees reflected on Rachel’s contributions and the significance of memorializing her in a location she traveled daily while serving the community. During the ceremony, the Hodge family was presented with a keepsake memorial sign identical to the one installed at the intersection.

Representative Steven Sainz supported the memorial designation through the legislative process, carrying forward a request initiated by Sheriff Chaney, with assistance from the Georgia Department of Transportation. Sheriff Chaney expressed gratitude for the partnership and for the Hodge family’s ongoing involvement in the effort.

The Rachel Hodge Memorial Intersection stands as a lasting tribute to a life dedicated to public safety and a daily reminder to the community of the professionalism, compassion, and commitment Rachel brought to her work. The Sheriff’s Office encourages residents to continue keeping her family and the Communications Division in their thoughts and prayers.
