Marietta Man Sentenced to 20 Years for Burglary After Ransacking Ex-Girlfriend’s Apartment

MARIETTA, GA – Cobb County District Attorney Sonya F. Allen announced that Glenmaine Scott has been convicted of first-degree burglary and sentenced to 20 years as a recidivist, with eight years to serve in prison. The verdict was delivered by Superior Court Judge Angela Z. Brown following a bench trial.
The case began on January 6, 2022, when Smyrna Police responded to a burglary call. The victim had returned from an out-of-state trip to discover her apartment in disarray. Nearly all of her belongings—furniture, bedding, wall art, clothing, and accessories—had been removed. Even the shower head and curtain were gone, and the items left behind in her closet had been doused in bleach.
Neighbors reported seeing the victim’s ex-boyfriend at the apartment days earlier. They told police that Scott had angrily removed items and tossed them into a dumpster, claiming he was “moving.” The witnesses said they found his behavior suspicious, noting that the victim lived alone and was known for being very independent. Out of fear, they avoided further confrontation.
Many of the discarded items, including linens, furniture, and personal belongings, were found to be in new or good condition. Witnesses also confirmed Scott drove a silver Chevy sedan, matching the vehicle they saw at the scene.
District Attorney Allen condemned Scott’s conduct:
“The behavior in this case is disturbing. I’m incredibly proud of Assistant District Attorney Jeremy Hager for bringing this case to trial and for standing up for our victim. I also want to thank Smyrna Police Department—especially Officer Downs, DA Investigators Rohan, Baxter, Stockinger, Advocate Mills, and the trial team—for their work in this case.”
Scott’s sentencing reflects his status as a repeat offender under Georgia law.
