Man Fatally Stabbed on E. Tift Ave; Albany Police Searching for Murder Suspect

UPDATE: On July 26, 2025, Edtavis Smith turned himself in at the Law Enforcement Center. After an interview with investigators, he was charged with Aggravated Assault and Murder. He was taken to the Dougherty County Jail.

ALBANY, GA — In the early hours of Friday, July 25, Albany Police officers responded to a reported stabbing in the 1000 block of E. Tift Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found 33-year-old Darius Jackson suffering from stab wounds. Jackson later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have identified 34-year-old Edtavis Lequan Smith as the suspect. Warrants have been issued for his arrest on murder charges. Smith is currently at large and should be considered armed and dangerous.
