Albany Man Arrested After Robbing Store Employee of $2 Pack of Tobacco

ALBANY, Ga. – A 37-year-old Albany man was arrested after police say he robbed a store employee of a single pack of tobacco products valued at less than $2 before fleeing to his nearby residence.

Officers with the Albany Police Department responded July 24 to the 1200 block of Dawson Road following a reported robbery.

When officers arrived, they learned a business employee had been robbed of a single pack of tobacco products. Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspect, who was later identified as John Bush, 37.

According to investigators, as Bush fled the business, the employee threw her cellphone at him. Police said Bush picked up the cellphone from the ground and continued running from the scene.

Witnesses told officers they saw Bush run to his residence, where he refused to answer the door after officers knocked and announced their presence.

Investigators later obtained a search warrant for the residence. During the search, officers reported finding several additional tobacco products matching the same brand involved in the robbery.

Bush was taken into custody and transported to the Dougherty County Jail.

He was charged with robbery by sudden snatching, theft by taking and obstruction of a law enforcement officer.

The Albany Police Department thanked the witnesses who assisted officers during the investigation, noting that community involvement remains an important resource in solving crimes and improving public safety.
