Man Shot by Ashburn Police After Pointing Gun at Officer During Checkpoint Stop

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Ashburn, Turner County, on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at the request of the Ashburn Police Department. Tadrian Holsey, 33, of Albany, GA, was injured in the incident. No officers sustained injuries.

Preliminary details indicate that around 8:30 p.m., Ashburn Police Department officers were conducting a roadblock/checkpoint near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and West Washington Avenue when a silver Chevrolet Impala approached. Officers detected the odor of suspected marijuana emanating from the vehicle. They instructed the driver to pull over and both the female driver and passenger, Holsey, exited the car.

During this interaction, Holsey reportedly reached back into the car, turned, and began to flee. An officer attempted to apprehend Holsey and observed a handgun in his possession. As officers gave verbal commands, they witnessed Holsey point the gun at an officer. In response, an officer discharged their firearm, striking Holsey.

Turner County EMS responded to the scene, and Holsey was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The GBI is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the case file will be submitted to the Tifton Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.
