Driver Runs Into Woods During Jones County Traffic Stop, Captured After Brief Search

MACON, Ga. – A driver who ran into the woods after a Jones County deputy attempted to stop a vehicle with a mismatched license plate was captured following a brief search, according to the Jones County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Dominguez attempted to stop a Pontiac near Joycliff Road in northeast Macon on Sept. 9 after discovering the license plate displayed on the vehicle was registered to a Dodge Challenger.

Instead of stopping, the driver pulled into a nearby driveway, authorities said. When Dominguez followed the vehicle into the driveway, the driver got out and ran into the woods.

Several Jones County deputies responded and established a perimeter around the area.

After several minutes, Capt. Travis Douglas spotted the suspect running along the woodline behind a residence. Douglas and Cpl. Ribeiro located the man and took him into custody.

The sheriff’s office identified the suspect as Rishard Brown.

Brown was charged with obstruction of an officer and expired registration. He was also taken into custody for a probation violation.

No injuries were reported during the incident.
