Fugitive Captured in Crisp County After Weeks on the Run

A burglary suspect evading capture for weeks was arrested on January 28 after authorities received multiple tips about his whereabouts.
The Crisp County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) was first alerted on December 31, 2024, by Wilcox County investigators that the suspect, Timothy Groomes, was believed to be residing in Crisp County. Around 5:00 p.m., Deputy Hall responded to a location on West Road, where Groomes fled into the woods. Despite efforts from Deputy First Class Spurling and K9 Rowdy, he was not located at that time. The homeowner, Amy Poole, was warned about the consequences of harboring a fugitive.
On January 15, CCSO received anonymous tips stating that Groomes was still in the West Road area but continued to evade arrest.
On January 28, a citizen spotted Groomes driving a blue Chevy pickup on Highway 257 North and reported it to an off-duty deputy. This information was relayed to Corporal Telfair and Deputy Kendrick, who located the truck at a business on Highway 257 around 9:00 p.m. Groomes was found inside the business, with Amy Poole in the passenger seat of the truck. Both were taken into custody and transported to the Crisp County Detention Center.
Timothy Groomes, 39, faces multiple charges, including Possession of a Controlled Substance (methamphetamine), and has active warrants in other counties.
Amy Poole, 41, was charged with hindering the apprehension of a criminal and has since been released on bond.
