Richmond County Mourns the Loss of Retired Major, a Lifelong Public Servant

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office announces with great sadness the passing of retired Major John “Jack” Francisco, who devoted 45 years to serving and protecting the citizens of Augusta-Richmond County. Major Francisco began his career in 1978 and retired as a Major on May 31, 2023.
In 1982, Francisco, then a Deputy, was severely injured in the line of duty when he was shot in the stomach while responding to a domestic dispute. His father, Captain John Louis Francisco, Sr., also responded as backup but was tragically shot and passed away 13 days later. Despite this devastating loss, Francisco continued his service for 41 more years, becoming a symbol of courage and resilience in the community.
Sheriff Gino Brantley expressed his sorrow, stating, “Major Jack Francisco was the embodiment of selfless service and courage. His dedication to this community, even in the face of personal tragedy, is a testament to his character and love for Augusta. We are deeply saddened by his passing but forever grateful for his legacy and sacrifice.”
Major Francisco’s commitment to the community and his family will always be remembered. Funeral arrangements and further details will be provided in the near future. The family asks that all remain in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
