Macon Music Half Marathon Returns with Live Music and Historic Finish Line

Macon is gearing up for the second annual Macon Music Half Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, November 16, 2024, at 8:00 a.m. The race will begin at Carolyn Crayton Park and culminate at the historic Luther Williams Field, promising runners a unique blend of fitness and cultural heritage.

“This half marathon is back and better than ever,” said Mayor Lester Miller. “Last year, we welcomed participants from across the country, and we’re excited to showcase Macon’s vibrant community again.”

The course, featuring live music along historic musical landmarks like the Big House Museum, ends with runners crossing the finish line at home plate inside Luther Williams Field. Post-race festivities include performances by the A2Z Band, food, and drinks.

“This is a great way to highlight Macon’s cultural and musical legacy while promoting health and wellness,” said Delvecchio Finley, Atrium Health Georgia Market President. Atrium Health Navicent returns as the presenting sponsor for the event.

Last year, 614 runners from 13 states, 52 Georgia counties, and even one international location participated, generating over $125,000 in direct revenue for the community. The race contributed to Macon-Bibb County being named a Runner Friendly Community by the Road Runners Club of America. The race was used in addition to years of improvements to the trail system, bike lanes, and roads to make them safer for everyone to use.

The improvements included bike lanes around Downtown and neighborhoods, expansion of the Ocmulgee Heritage Trails, trails at Amerson River Park and Carolyn Crayton Park, a 12-mile run course with parking and gathering areas, the trails in the Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park, and more. It also pointed out that many of the trails currently being developed or expanded will connect in the next few years to create a trail of 12-15 miles, allowing there to be a half marathon that never crosses a road.

The Macon Tracks Running Club, Macon-Bibb County, Visit Macon, and sponsors like Mercer University, Georgia Power, and Oconee State Bank are organizing this year’s event.

Macon Tracks President F.M. Barron added, “We hope to inspire more people to join the running community and experience all that Macon has to offer.”
