Middle Georgia State University Unveils New Cross-Country Facilities

MACON, Ga.—Middle Georgia State University (MGA) has officially opened new competition and event facilities at its Georgia Premier Cross Country Course, located on the Macon Campus.

The new amenities, funded by a $1.24 million federal grant and nearly $311,000 in SPLOST support from Macon-Bibb, are expected to generate nearly $1 million in annual economic activity. The project includes two climate-controlled buildings and a new open-air pavilion with covered viewing areas, public restrooms, team locker rooms, and concessions.

The course itself has also been upgraded with a new starting line that can accommodate up to 1,000 competitors and an expanded, paved parking lot with room for team buses.

“The recent upgrades to the Georgia Premier Cross Country Course are a tribute to the leaders of our University and to community partners who believe in public-private collaborations that drive local growth,” said Michael Brown, MGA’s athletics director. “Georgia Premier has long been a destination for championship-caliber competition, and these enhanced facilities will allow us to attract even more events that benefit our student-athletes, visitors, and the regional economy.”

The Georgia Premier Cross Country Course is home to the MGA Knights cross-country team and regularly hosts collegiate, high school, and community races on its two, three, and five-kilometer loops.
