Wesleyan College Arboretum Receives Higher Accreditation

MACON, Ga.—The Wesleyan College Arboretum has been upgraded to a Level II Accreditation by The ArbNet Arboretum Accreditation Program and The Morton Arboretum.

The accreditation signifies that the arboretum has met high standards for professional practices. The arboretum, which was first accredited in 2013, is included in the Morton Register of Arboreta, a global database of arboreta and gardens.

Established in 1996, the Wesleyan College Arboretum spans 104 acres of mixed forest on the suburban Rivoli campus. It contains over 130 species of trees, shrubs, and woody vines, and is home to a variety of animals, including over 150 species of birds. The arboretum also features Foster Lake, three streams, and seasonal rain pools.

Facilities include the Dice R. Anderson Cabin, the Ellen Ann Edenfield Pavilion, and a “Natural Playground” area, which are used for classes, meetings, and community events. Over three miles of public trails are open during daylight hours for hiking and running.

According to the college, the Level II accreditation “reaffirms Wesleyan College’s commitment to sustainability and maintaining meaningful connections to the natural world.”
