The Arlington Renegades of the United Football League (UFL) have highlighted the journey of Macon native Marquette King, a punter known for his powerful leg and signature swagger on the field. Beyond football, King’s story is one of passion, resilience, and creativity as he continues his pursuit of excellence in both sports and music.

From Macon to the Pros

Born and raised in Macon, Georgia, King played college football at Fort Valley State University, a historically Black college where he developed his skills as a punter and kicker. His dedication earned him an opportunity with the Oakland Raiders in 2012, where he quickly became one of the most dynamic special teams players in the NFL. By 2018, he was playing for the Denver Broncos, solidifying his reputation as one of the league’s top punters.

“I always knew I didn’t want a normal job,” King said. “Football gave me structure, and structure is a superpower.”

Mastering the Mental Game

As a punter, King has learned that success depends as much on mental toughness as it does on physical ability. He credits his ability to stay composed as a key factor in his longevity in professional football.

“You gotta stay somewhere in the middle,” he explained. “If you get too high, it’s too much. If you’re too low, you ain’t focused enough. Balance is key.”

King likens football to life, emphasizing that both require adaptability and perseverance.

“The more you play the game, the more you start to realize that football is very similar to how life works. It’s a lot of small lessons that come with the game.”

A Passion for Music

When King isn’t on the field, he is in the studio creating music. His love for producing beats and songwriting dates back to his high school years.

“I used to make beats in high school, and when I got to the Raiders, I had a lot of free time,” he recalled. “One day, I asked myself, ‘What would I sound like if I recorded myself?’ And from there, the dominoes fell.”

King approaches music with the same discipline he applies to football. “Some artists stay out from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m., but I’ve got to have a schedule. I want to see the sun come up.”

His latest track is set to release this Friday, and he is eager to see how fans react. “It’s like Christmas for me,” he said. “Waking up, checking if it’s on platforms—just seeing people’s reactions is the best feeling in the world.”

Manifesting an NFL Comeback

King remains focused on his season with the Renegades but is confident he will return to the NFL.

“The UFL is the league of opportunity,” he said. “They let players be themselves, and they support us on and off the field. I know I’m getting another shot—I’m manifesting that comeback.”

Determined to continue improving, King emphasized the importance of growth.

“I’d be disappointed if I moved the same way I did the last two seasons,” he said. “This year is about growth, mentally and physically.”

A Message to the Fans

King expressed gratitude to the Arlington Renegades and UFL fans who continue to support him.

“Shout out to all the Arlington Renegades fans and all the UFL fans,” he said. “They’re the reason we get to do what we love. And a big shout out to the UFL for giving me another opportunity to display what I can do.”

Balancing his athletic career with his passion for music, King continues to prove that success comes from embracing multiple talents and excelling in every pursuit.
