ALBANY, Ga. — A man wanted for second-degree murder in Florida was arrested Tuesday in Albany following a joint operation by the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office and the Albany Police Department.

Authorities said investigators received information on June 30 that 35-year-old Maurice McCray of Bradenton, Florida, was at a residence in the 1100 block of 6th Avenue.

After gathering information and coordinating their response, deputies and police officers took McCray into custody without incident.

A second man, identified as Kevion Baker, was also found at the residence. Baker was wanted in Florida for a probation violation and was also taken into custody.

McCray was wanted by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office in connection with a March 8, 2026, shooting in Bradenton.

According to investigators, 27-year-old Jamari Murray-Barnes and 22-year-old De’Ryan Lopez were stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of 14th Street West and 53rd Avenue West when McCray allegedly pulled alongside their vehicle and fired multiple rounds into the car.

Murray-Barnes died from his injuries, while Lopez survived the shooting.

The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office praised the cooperation between its deputies and the Albany Police Department, saying the coordinated effort led to the quick and safe apprehension of both suspects.
