Albany Police Investigating Fatal Shooting Outside Family Dollar; Three Persons of Interest Identified

ALBANY, Georgia – Albany police are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 21-year-old man dead Monday near a Family Dollar store on North Slappey Boulevard.

According to the Albany Police Department, officers responded on June 1 to the Family Dollar located in the 1000 block of North Slappey Boulevard after receiving reports of a shooting.

When officers arrived, they found 21-year-old Brandon Jones deceased inside a vehicle parked between the Family Dollar and Mad Hatter Muffler. Investigators determined Jones had been shot and pronounced him dead at the scene.

Detectives immediately began processing the scene and gathering evidence. During the investigation, officers identified three persons of interest connected to the case.

The individuals were identified as:

  • Kemari Leverette, 20
  • Sherrod Winchester, 22
  • Earl Acree, 25

Police said Winchester and Acree both have active warrants stemming from unrelated previous incidents.

As of Monday, no arrests had been made and no charges had been filed in connection with Jones’ death.

The investigation remains active and ongoing.
