Canton Police Arrest Man in Dollar General Burglary, Link Him to Second Break-In Days Later
CANTON, Ga. — Canton police arrested a 23-year-old man after officers interrupted a burglary in progress at a Dollar General store and later connected him to a second burglary at a Chevron convenience store days later.
According to the Canton Police Department, officers responded Thursday, May 7, 2026, at approximately 11:10 p.m. to an audible alarm at the Dollar General located at 1883 Hickory Flat Highway.
Police said officers arrived within minutes, observed signs of forced entry, and encountered a suspect inside the business. The suspect reportedly fled deeper into the store as additional officers established a perimeter and searched the building and surrounding area.
During the investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed the suspect removing cash drawers and stealing cigarettes and other tobacco products before police arrived.
A short time later, officers located a man matching the suspect’s description walking along Hickory Flat Highway near the store. He was detained and transported back to the scene as investigators continued the investigation.
Authorities identified the suspect as Gary Dashaun Robinson, 23, of Canton.
Robinson was arrested and booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on charges of Theft by Taking, Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, and Obstruction of a Law Enforcement Officer related to the Dollar General incident.
Police later connected Robinson to a second burglary investigation involving the Chevron station at 111 Mountain Vista Boulevard.
According to investigators, officers responded to the Chevron on Sunday, May 10, at approximately 1:18 a.m. after receiving an audible alarm with a glass-break activation and discovered signs of forced entry.
After reviewing surveillance video from the business, investigators identified Robinson as the suspect in that burglary as well. Police said the footage showed the suspect entering the store and stealing tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and a lighter before leaving the scene.
Robinson was additionally charged with Burglary in the Second Degree, Criminal Damage to Property in the Second Degree, and misdemeanor Theft by Taking in connection with the Chevron burglary.
Chief Marty Ferrell praised the officers and investigators involved in the case, citing their teamwork and professionalism during the response and investigation.
Authorities said Robinson remains in custody without bond.
