Man Barricades Himself Inside Sandy Springs Apartment After Domestic Violence Call
SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. — A man was taken into custody Wednesday morning after allegedly assaulting the mother of his child and barricading himself inside an apartment while officers investigated reports of gunfire, according to the Sandy Springs Police Department.
Police said officers responded shortly after 8 a.m. on May 13, 2026, to an apartment complex at 6831 Glenlake Parkway after receiving a 911 call from a woman reporting she had been assaulted by 33-year-old Dennis Carter.
When officers arrived, they learned Carter had returned to his apartment and barricaded himself inside, authorities said.
According to police, officers approaching the apartment heard what they believed to be gunshots coming from inside the residence. Officers immediately withdrew from the area and evacuated nearby apartments as a precaution.
The department’s SWAT team responded to the scene while negotiators established communication with Carter.
Authorities said negotiators were eventually able to convince Carter to surrender peacefully without further incident.
Carter was charged with False Imprisonment, Simple Battery under Family Violence, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Reckless Conduct.
Police said the investigation remains active and additional charges may be filed.
